We are taught at a very young age that we are to seek out happiness, yet no one authentically knows what that is. When you are a child, happiness could be found by playing with toys, and schoolmates. When we are children, our view of happiness is minimal. As years passed, our view of happiness becomes much more expansive. It seems that everyone has their own idea as to what makes them happy. It becomes ingrained in us that seeking happiness is the point of our existence. To find happiness, then we will be living a faultless life. What makes happiness, or good yet, where happiness exists is a request that has been pondered by many great thinkers. Aristotle and Immanuel Kant had quite a bit to say on the subject. Both of these customary philosophers have a road map, if you will, to happiness. Yet, their theories differ ultimately in how to go about attaining happiness.

Aristotle wrote that we choose happiness all the time for itself, and never for the sake of something else. He believed happiness to be the end, and it is self-sufficient. Ultimately, my aim is to make money, so agreeing to Aristotle, my happiness is to be found in riches. Because I found out that by being cheerful (which is not the same as being happy) I could make money, I adopt the attitude that by being cheerful I can attain riches. Aristotle disagrees with that because my extreme goal it to get riches, it is not to be happy.

The second is that happiness is self adequate in itself. It is to be sought only for itself, and not for the sake of anything else. Aristotle specifically mentions the life of gratification (pleasure, comfort, etc.), the life of moneymaking, the life of political action, and the philosophical life, i.e., the life of contemplation or study. He has no patience with the life of moneymaking or the life of gratification. Yet, Aristotle does agree that living a life of comfort is pleasurable.

He also writes that it is only straight through the virtues that happiness can ever be experienced. Virtues are habits of the soul by which one acts well, i.e. For the sake of what is fine and noble. As Aristotle puts it, virtuous actions express definite (right) reason. They are acquired straight through practice and habituation. One becomes virtuous by acting virtuously, i.e. By acting as the virtuous person acts, doing what one should when one should and in the way, one should. The virtuous person comes to take delight in acting virtuously (hence, one sign that we have not acquired a positive virtue is that when we accomplish actions of the sort related with that virtue; we do not take delight in those actions but instead find them burdensome). Similarly, one becomes deficient by allowing positive defective ways of acting to become habitual. A person can collect bad, as well as good habits. Virtue is difficult to attain, since if we plainly succeed our inclinations, we fail to comprehend our potential. Even though we have a natural desire for happiness, our inborn inclinations often lead us away from our true happiness. Some never accomplish virtuous activity, and only pursue what immediately feels good. Self-gratification should not be the direct target of our actions. It is impossible to attain happiness without pursuing what is good and true. Intellectual and moral virtues are necessary, and must be habitual. There are rules about what is virtuous and what is not. everyone is capable of being virtuous, yet not everyone will be. Human beings are capable of learning, and straight through many years of faithful study, a virtuous being can reach a faultless and whole life.

A person is not born virtuous, although at the time of birth, a person is born with the senses. It is not until many years of learning, that a human learns how to utilize these senses. It is foremost to note, that it takes time to learn, and mature to be able to establish virtue. For example, a child because of its young age has not experienced the needful needed lessons that life teaches to be virtuous.

Aristotle wrote that a life of pleasure, a life of politics, and a life of study were needful to a faultless and whole life. Living a faultless life involves these goals. Living your goals in accordance with virtue is how to attain happiness. In other words, we have a accountability to do what is worth doing, as well as doing what we are good at doing. This will lead to the supreme good, which is the end, which is happiness. For example, the race of wealth was ruled out because money is only as good as to what it can buy. Happiness is indefinite, and although everyone wishes for happiness, he/she can never authentically know his/her true wishes and wills. Instead of searching for happiness, he found that the moral law constructed by think is what a person should be seeking. Kant believes this to be the categorical imperative. The categorical imperative is any statement of moral obligation, which I make the principle of my operation (my "maxim" in Kant vocabulary). The categorical imperative refers to the principle that all ideas of our operation (maxims) could consistently become universal laws.

Happiness is both too indefinite, and to empirical to serve as grounds for moral obligation. No two people share the exact same tastes. Nor does everyone share the same interests and goals. Simply, what makes one person happy does not necessarily make an additional one person happy. Everyone's experiences are different; experience is needful to attain happiness. In other words, I cannot know that something will make me happy by just thinking of it. Kant says that it is not possible to know a priori before an operation whether it authentically will be conducive to our own happiness. The desire for our own happiness cannot serve as a motivator to determine our will to do this or that action. Our own desire to be happy cannot be fully known. Happiness is not good without qualification. agreeing to Kant, the only thing that is good without qualification is a good will.

Advertising - precious information Or Vicious Manipulation?

Is advertising the greatest means to advise and help us in our everyday decision-making or is it just an excessively suited form of mass deception used by associates to persuade their prospects and customers to buy products and services they do not need? The abovementioned process is influenced by the commoditisation of products and confusion of consumer's own perceptions of the companies' offering. In order to differentiate and position their products and/or services today's businesses employ advertising which is sometimes carefully not only of bad taste, but also as deliberately intrusive and manipulative. The issue of bad advertising is topical to such extent that organisations like Adbusters have embraced the tactics of subvertising - revealing the real intend behind the modern advertising. The Adbusters magazine editor-in-chief Kalle Lason commented on the corporate image construction communication activities of the big companies: "We know that oil associates aren't de facto cordial to nature, and tobacco associates don't de facto care about ethics" (Arnold, 2001). On the other hand, the "ethics and public accountability are prominent determinants of such long-term gains as survival, long-term profitability, and competitiveness of the organization" (Singhapakdi, 1999). Without communications strategy that revolves around ethics and public accountability the concepts of total quality and customer relationships construction become elusive. However, there could be no easy clear-cut ethics method of marketing communications.

Advertising - Prescious facts Or Vicious Manipulation?

In order to get insights into the buyer perception about the role of advertising we have reviewed a amount of articles and conducted four in-depth interviews. Theme I. The Ethics in Advertising

The first theme comprises two first questions about the ethics in advertising in general.

I.A. How would you define the ethics in advertising?

The term ethics in enterprise involves "morality, organisational ethics and expert deontology" (Isaac, cited in Bergadaa', 2007). Every manufactures has its own guidelines for the ethical requirements. However, the principal four requirements for marketing communications are to be legal, decent, honest and truthful. At the end of the day "good taste or bad is largely a matter of the time, the place, and the individual" (Bernstein, 1951). It would be also probably impossible to set clear-cut detailed rules in the era of Internet and interactive Tv. Iii.A. What is your attitude towards the advertisement of harmful products?

A typical example is the advertisement of cigarettes. Surprisingly, most of the answers of the respondents were not against the cigarettes advertisement. One of the respondents said:

"People are well informed about the consequences of smoking so it is a matter of personal choice."

As with many other modern products the shift in communications messages for cigarettes is oriented towards symbol and image building. The same can be said for the alcohol ads. A familiar example of emotional advertising is the Absolut Vodka campaign. From Absolut Nectar, straight through Absolut Fantasy to Absolut World the Swedish drink de facto aims to be Absolut... Everything.

Advertising of dangerous products is even more harshly criticised when it is aimed at audiences with low individual autonomy, i.e. Children. Two main issues in this respect are the manipulation of cigarettes and alcohol as "the rite of passage into adulthood" and the fact that "sales of health-hazardous products (alcohol, cigarettes) make freely without much disapproval" (Bergadaa, 2007).

Iii.B. What is your attitude towards the advertisement to children?

Children are not only customers, but also consumers, influencers and users in the family Decision-Making Unit (Dmu). Supplementary strangeness is that they are too impressionable to be deciders in the Dmu. At the same time it is not a secret that marketers apply "the same basic strategy of trying to sell the parent straight through the child's insistence on the purchase" (Bernstein, 1951). It is not a surprise then that "spending on advertising for children has increased five-fold in the last ten years and two thirds of commercials during child television programs are for food products" (Bergadaa 2007). • Sponsorship of children's programmes is not permitted in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden while in Germany and the Netherlands, although it is allowed, it is not used in practice." (McSpotlight, accessed 20th September 2007).

According to a study by Roberts and Pettigrew (2007) the most frequent themes in children advertising are "grazing, the denigration of core foods, exaggerated health claims, and the implied quality of sure foods to improve popularity, performance and mood." But the junk food is not the only reckon for parents' preoccupation. The other part involves "the decision-making accountability of parents and teachers" which is "to assist their children in developing a skeptical attitude to the facts in advertising" (Bergadaa 2007). The marketers themselves should also be involved in shaping the moral principles of our hereafter and "each brand should have its own deontology - a code of practice with regard to children - rather than rely on manufactures codes" (Horgan, 2007).

Iii.C. Do you think there are many misleading, exaggerating and confusing advertisements. Are many ads promising things that are not potential to achieve?

It will not be exaggerated to state that advertising is in a sense "salesmanship addressed to masses of potential buyers rather than to one buyer at a time" (Bernstein, 1951). Since "salesmanship itself is persuasion" (ibid.) we cannot merely blame advertisers for pursuing their sales goals. However, in the last twenty years or so advertisers have increasingly applied semiotics in their messages and as a consequence ads have begun to function more and more as symbols. One greatest case in this stream of advertising is the creation of idealised image of a man who uses the advertised product. Bishop (2000) draws our attention to two "typical representatives of self-identity image ads" which entice consumers to project the respective images to themselves straight through use of the products:

- "The beautiful Woman";
- "The Sexy Teenagers.

Through setting of such stereotypes advertisers not only mislead the public and exaggerate the effects of products but also provoke low self-esteem in consumers. At the same time they promise results that in most cases are plainly impossible to achieve. Instead of promoting "'glamorous' anorexic body images" communication messages should use "varied body types" and should drop the idea of the "impossible corporeal body images" (Bishop, 2000).

To ask Iii.C one of the respondents commented:

"The customers of these products [the ones advertised straight through thin models] are mostly people who do not have the same corporeal characteristic. For me, this type of advertising is deliberately aimed at people to make them feel not complete, far from spellbinding public outsiders."

However, other interviewed stated that: "every man has his own way of evaluating what is believable and what is misleading. Consumers are sufficient sophisticated to know what is exaggerated."

Similarly, Bishop (2000) concludes that "image ads are not false or misleading", and "whether or not they advocate false values is a matter for subjective reflection." The author argues that image ads do not interfere with our internal autonomy and if people are misled, it is because they want it. It is all about our free choice of behaviour and no advertisement can modify our desires. Perhaps, the truth lies somewhere in-between the two greatest positions.

Iii.D. What is your attitude towards advertisement that imply sense of guilt, and praise affluence that in the most cases cannot be achieved?

A more definite case of controversial advertising is the one used to "promote not so much self indulgence as self doubt"; the one that "seeks to generate needs, not to fulfill them: to generate new anxieties instead of allaying old ones" (Hackley and Kitchen, 1999). A response of our interviewee reads:

"It is not only a matter of advertising. It has to do with the public inequality and the desire to possess what you can not."

Hackley and Kitchen (1999) refer to this unlikeness as to "when reality does not match the image of affluence and the ensue is a subjective feeling of dissonance". The issue could be elaborated Supplementary straight through the next question.

These three reports are advent to Our Senses, by the Arts, education and Americans Panal (1977), Can we rescue the Arts for American Children, sponsored by the American Council for the Arts (1988), and the most respected study, Toward Civilization, by the National Endowment for the Arts (1988). These three studies conjured that art education was very important in achieving a higher education for our students. While these studies proved the arts to be useful to the learning process, it was not until 2002 when the explore pathology of considerable Links: learning in the Arts and pupil schoraly and social amelioration “provided evidence for improving learning and achievement as well as positive social outcomes when the arts were integral to students’ learning experiences” was taken seriously by lawmakers (Burns, 2003, p. 5). Other study showed at-risk students who, for one year, participated in an art- based curriculum raised their standardized language arts test by an mean of eight percentile points, 16 percentile points if enrolled for two years. Students not interesting in this form of performance did not show a convert of percentile (Swan-Hudkins, 2003). Though this may not seem like a big increase, at- risk students were able to use this style of learning to great understand their learning style thus bettering their learning patterns. The most interesting case study in this pathology complicated the schools of Sampson, North Carolina, where for two years in a row their standardized test scores rose only in the schools that implemented the arts education in their school district (Swan-Hudkins, 2003). Teaching the arts needs to be incorporated in every teachers daily lesson plans because, based on these studies, students who are taught straight through the arts raise their test and learning levels.

Due to the high volume of concentration President Bush’s, No Child Left Behind Act, has required in schools, teaching the arts is left behind. Other surmise for the lack of arts in the classroom author Victoria Jacobs explains, “Given the shrinking budgets of school districts around the country, art specialists and art programs have disappeared from many elementary schools” (Jacobs, 1999, p. 4). Fine arts are being seen as non-educational or an extra-curricular activity. Therefore, when there is a lack of money in school districts, this branch is beyond doubt being cut. Teachers need to find a way to concentrate the arts into the classroom rather than rely on face activities and Jacobs suggests teaching “through the arts… with a means of using the arts successfully and in a way that it is not just “one more thing” they must comprise in the curriculum” (Jacobs, 1999, p. 4).

The arts can open the minds of students in ways mere reading and writing will never be able to accomplish. Yet, the point of teaching this branch is not to teach about the arts, but to teach straight through the arts. Jacobs explains,
Teaching though the arts requires students to engage in the act of creative art. For example they might draw a picture, write a poem, act in a drama, or make music to added their comprehension of concepts in content areas other than the arts. Teaching straight through the arts helps students perceive concepts rather than simply discussing or reading them. This approach is consistent with educational theories that highlight the significance of reaching manifold learning styles or intelligences. (Jacobs, 1999, p. 2)

Teaching straight through the arts can be done in many different ways depending on the teacher’s interests, but truly is the only way to reinforce the students learning experience. In a time where allocation cuts and new learning laws are being established, teachers need to be more informed and educated on the negative impacts of the loss of the fine arts programs.
Three, veteran teachers at a social elementary school did a case study which complicated teaching straight through the arts. They believed “our students had to perceive cycles of inquiry wherein they learned about the arts and straight through the arts, and that they needed to see teachers of different disciplines collaborate” (Berghoff, 2003, p. 2).

The study was based on teaching a history lesson unit on relaxation and Slavery straight through the arts. Ms. Bixler-Borgmann had her students listen to the song “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” in many different styles of music, such as an African-American Quartet, Reggae, and Show Tunes. She then incorporated this lesson into the significance singing played to the slaves at that time. Ms. Berghoff had her students read samples of African-American folk literature and write down sentences that made an impact on them while they were reading. She then incorporated those sentences into group poems. Ms. Parr explored two art pieces entitled, “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” and had the students talk about artwork by asking three questions: "What is going on in this picture? What do you see that makes you say that? What else can you find?” (Berghoff, 2003). She also had the students focus on the images, concepts, and meanings which the artists wanted to depict. Ms. Parr felt this would teach the students how to uncover the inexpressive meanings in other core curriculum subjects (Berghoff, 2003). After the study, the students were asked what and how they had learned from this style of teaching.

Many students wrote in their journals that working in manifold sign systems in parallel ways heightened their emotional involvement. They found themselves thinking about what they were learning in class when they were at home or at work. They noted that even though they had studied slavery at other times, they had never beyond doubt imagined how it felt to be a slave or understanding about the slaves' perspectives and struggles. (Berghoff, 2003)

The students had learned more from this lesson because they were able to use all styles of learning and were taught from an angle which is rarely used, straight through the arts. “Studies indicate that a victorious arts integrated agenda will use these components to guide pupil learning and correlate increase and amelioration (Swan-Hudkins, 2003). The students were able to learn based on abstract thinking and find the deeper meaning of the lessons ready by the teachers.

“The study of the arts has the potential for providing other benefits traditionally related with arts….arts has been related to students’ increased considerable and creative thinking skills, self-esteem, willingness to take risks, and ability to work with others” (Jacobs, 1999, p. 4). With these benefits, teachers can not afford to limit their teaching of the arts in the classroom. Teaching straight through the arts are the key elements of learning and the traits teachers strive to make and reinforce in their students. By working straight through the arts, instead of about the arts, the students’ educational perceive will be achieved in a different way than just teaching the proper style of learning. Previous Governor of California, Gray Davis, noted, “Art education helps students make creativity, self-expression, analytical skills, discipline, cross-cultural understandings, and a heightened appreciation for the arts” and that “students who make artistic expression and creative question solving skills are more like to result in school and will be great ready for the jobs and careers of the future” (California Art Study, 2003, p. 1).

Exposing students to abstract learning will teach the students about logic and thinking and help them grasp what might not be represented on the surface. new Reports from the National Art education association (Naea) confirmed with Governor Davis when they reported “Students in art study score higher on both their Verbal and Math Sat tests than those who are not enrolled in arts courses (California Art Study, 2003, p. 5). What is a great way to improve a lesson plan than to add Other size of learning than by incorporating different levels of teaching? An example of the benefits of teaching the arts would be the study of a teacher who taught the water cycle lesson straight through movement and music. The students were introduced to the water cycle in the customary style of teaching, reading and lecturing. Yet, in order for the students to fully understand the “experience” of being a snowflake, the students listened to Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite (The Waltz of the Snowflakes) and done their eyes visualizing the adventure snowflakes encounter on there way to the ground. A great side result of dance is that “exposure to dances foreign to them (the students) helps them to understand and appreciate differences in societies. Their minds come to be open to new ideas and a different perspective. This comprehension helps to eliminate potential prejudice, enriching the pupil and our society” (Swan-Hudkins, 2003, p.17). While the music was playing the teacher asked them questions, such as, “How are they going to land” and “What do you see as you are falling”. The second time listening to the music the students were asked to act out the water cycle straight through movement and dance. Teachers should know “a class that includes dance can make students feel empowered and actively complicated in their education. In creating their own dance, students make conceptional thinking, which is not always expressed verbally” (Swan-Hudkins, 2003, p. 17).

With these activities, the students were able to come to be part of the water cycle instead of just using their listening skills and trying to mentally figure out this lesson. The teacher also had the students write a poem using words they felt while they, the snowflakes, were falling to the ground (Jacobs, 1999, p.2). “The motivational powers of the arts are considerable as this teacher explained, “Hooking a kid is half, if not more than half, the battle of learning. If you can hook them, then you can get them to learn” (Jacobs, 1999, p. 6). Teachers need to gain entrance to all styles of learning which can only spark their motivational powers.
Harvard task Researchers Winner and Hetland remarks, “The best hope for the arts in our school is to by comparison them by what they can do that other subjects can’t do as well” (Swan-Hudkins, 2003, p. 18). Teachers need to gain a great education of teaching their students straight through the arts. Without the arts, teachers are limiting their students’ ability to use their whole thinking process, providing less opening for complete comprehension. Teaching straight through the arts is the most remarkable tool that teachers can give in their classrooms because it enables the students to achieve their highest level of learning.

With the lack of concentration art is getting face of the classroom, teachers cannot afford not to concentrate dance, theater, visual arts, or music in their lesson plans. Fine arts is the core curriculums constant and most important companion. No child should be left behind, and teaching straight through the arts will reinforce this idea.
